The July 2026 flooding hit communities throughout the Texas Hill Country hard. Hunt, Kerrville, Center Point and other communities along the Guadalupe River suffered major damage.
This year, Comfort was hit too.
The Guadalupe River rose quickly, flooded homes and properties, damaged vehicles and left several local families facing water damage, mud, debris and a long recovery.
During the flood, the water spread far beyond the normal riverbank and across the roadway.
The flood reached one of the highest levels recorded in Comfort’s history. It was reported as the third-highest known flood level in town, showing just how serious this event was for our community.
Small Communities Are Often Overlooked
When a regional disaster happens, most of the attention naturally goes to the largest and most recognizable communities.
Kerrville and Boerne receive much of the news coverage, fundraising attention and regional support. They need assistance, but smaller communities such as Comfort and Center Point can easily be overlooked even when local families and businesses are dealing with the same damage.
Comfort is a small town in Kendall County. We do not have the population, government resources or media reach of larger nearby cities.
The same problem exists outside of disasters. Smaller towns are often overlooked in tourism even though local restaurants, stores, lodging properties and attractions depend heavily on visitors.
That is one reason VisitComfort.us is so important.
Our goal is to raise awareness for Comfort, support local businesses and help people understand what is happening in our community.
How You Can Help Comfort
There are many ways to help after a disaster.
You can donate directly to local organizations, churches, food pantries and volunteer groups helping affected residents.
Visit Comfort has also been involved in local recovery efforts through volunteering, helping organize supplies and supporting organizations such as The Comfort Table.
We plan to continue helping where we can and sharing information about local needs.
Support Local Recovery Efforts
People who would like to support those efforts may contribute through Visit Comfort. Contributions may be used to help organize supplies, assist local organizations or support other recovery efforts in and around Comfort.
People, businesses or organizations that would like to offer supplies, services, volunteer assistance or other support can use our contact form to reach us.
Visit Comfort is a locally operated tourism and community website and is not a registered charitable organization. Contributions are not tax-deductible unless specifically stated otherwise.
Support Comfort by Supporting Local Businesses
Helping after a disaster does not always require donating money or volunteering.
You can also help by visiting Comfort.
Eat at a locally owned restaurant. Shop at a local store. Book a local stay. Recommend Comfort to friends and family.
Money spent at locally owned businesses often stays in the community. Business owners employ local residents, work with nearby contractors and support other local organizations.
Comfort’s businesses still need customers, especially while families and property owners recover from the flood.
Please Remember the Smaller Towns
Kerrville deserves help. Boerne deserves help. Hunt and Center Point deserve help.
Comfort does too.
When the news coverage moves on, people here will still be cleaning homes, replacing belongings, repairing buildings and trying to return to normal.
Supporting Comfort now helps our community recover. Continuing to visit and support Comfort afterward helps make the town stronger.
Small communities may not receive the most attention, but they should not be forgotten.
